Can fruit really “give birth” to fruit flies?

There are two aspects to consider: long-stored fruit and fruit debris. Fruit flies can emerge from long-stored fruit if the adults lay eggs on the fruit’s surface, which hatch into larvae and then develop into adults over time. Fruit debris can also attract fruit flies if it contains yeast, which they can sense from afar. Additionally, fruit flies can easily enter homes through small holes in window screens. To control fruit flies, baited traps and sticky boards can be effective.
